What is a Slat Bed?
Have you been wondering about what slat beds are? They are essentially the same as a normal bed but instead of using a box spring they rely on wood slats to support the mattresses.

Simply put, a slat bed has a frame with slats fixed parallel in the middle. Slats are generally made of wood and secured in place by screws. In comparison to a box spring base, a slat support provides better support. Some people still prefer box spring support so it's a good idea to check out both types before making a purchase.
The positioning of the slats will ultimately determine the life of your mattresses. If the spacing between slats is too wide, the mattress can wear out too soon. A good rule of thumb is to keep a distance of no more than three inches between the slats.
Slat beds provide better support than box spring beds. Since we know that bed slats are an important element of the bed, we tend to presume that slats are expensive. Luckily this is not the case. You can get a high quality slat bed at a low cost.
Affordable and Comfortable Slat Beds
Generally a slat bed is raised only a few inches above the floor. In fact slats are a common feature in modern low profile beds. Low beds are experiencing a boom these days since many want a contemporary look. A low profile bed can also make your room look larger and brighter.
Take extra precautions when buying slat beds for children. The beds must not have sharp angles to avoid injury. A frolicking child jumps a lot so always go for a bed that is extra sturdy.
Since a slat bed is very cost effective it in turn allows you to spend more on a good mattress – eventually providing you with a great sleeping experience. At the end of the day, two things are essential to get a good night’s sleep: comfort and support. A good mattress satisfies both these needs. If a mattress doesn't provide a good night's sleep, it is probably time for a new one.
