These shelves hold a large capacity of DVDs. That's why I purchased them. Assembly took 3 hours for 2 of us working together. The rest of you must be very fast! Follow the directions exactly because it matters what pieces go where and when. Don't pound the boards or force in dowels, etc. This will split the boards as warned by the directions. The only EXCEPTION to the directions is the front trim pieces. Put them on after you put the backs in because the glue has to be pushed down into the slots around the dowels then snapped onto the dowels and left undisturbed until it sets. Otherwise, the trim pieces fall off. Definitely! secure the shelves to the wall. We used the nylon straps in the package, but my handyman would have preferred L-brackets. One on each top end secured to a stud is enough. Mine are cherry finish and nice enough for a second bedroom DVD collection. I like the low profile, no nonsense styling. However, I would not use these in a high traffic area such as a living room because they look like what they are--plastic. They are particle board covered with a plastic substance that approximates wood. To understand "plastic" think about all the office furniture for home offices that use the same material. In fact, I have a 3-drawer under desk filing cabinet that turned out to be the same material as the shelving. The good thing is that the low profile syling minimizes the low to mid-range appearance of the materials.

I had concerns about the shelves being flimsy, but when it's all together it's not bad. I had room for over 700 dvds.

For a BIG bookcase (76" x 76") it is surprisingly easy to assemble. It looks great.

CONs: I have a suggestion: if you want to secure it against the wall (I recommend it), do it BEFORE you attach the back boards because you are provided with two 3" straps and there's no way to do it as the last step unless you do what I did: drill a hole for the strap on the top of the case.

Very nice, functional, asthetic and large. Just what we needed. We added a wall brace/bracket for stability though. With the volume of CD's we are storing, we have to consider safety. Don't want it falling over.

I purchased this shelf unit about a year ago and am about to purchase a second one to house our ever-growing DVD collection. The unit looks wonderful, once assembled. I am a woman and assembled it in a little over an hour with just a little help from my daughter. I would warn that you need to be very careful not to pierce the outer skin of the unit with some of the screws, although the worst I achieved was just one small "pimple" on the side, which is pretty much invisible. The unit feels like it cannot be trusted to stand on its own without using the wall attachment, although to be fair it has shown no sign of trying to fall over. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking to store and create a display of their DVD or CD collection. We have had no bowing of the shelves, and the unit is 100% full of DVDs!

I have a large collection of paperback books, and needed a storage unit that could accommodate everything but not 'hide' books because the shelves were too deep. This rack is perfect for over 500 of my standard and oversized paperbacks, with room to spare.

This dvd case is very attractive. I think it is a great piece to put in a home with a modern theme due to its clean lines and simplicity. However my only complaint would be the shelves. They are not that sturdy and the supports underneath the shelves that are supposed to keep them from bending in the middle keep popping off. The reason this is happening is because 1) the holes are bigger than the pegs so the pegs don't fit snugly inside and 2) the shelves themselves are not that strong to begin with. I've tried to fix this problem myself by putting in bigger pegs in the holes so they would stay inside, but I only made it worse, because now the holes are just getting bigger and bigger. Now several of my shelves are sagging in the middle because of the weight of my dvds. That's probably why the price of this dvd case is relatively inexpensive compared to other dvd cases I've seen on other sites. However, I now would probably be willing to spend a little bit more for a more durable case.

The unit is wonderful. It fit all of my vhs and dvds. I would have like to have the shelving a little thicker. In certain areas were there are more VHS tapes, it bows a little. The coloring is beautiful and the size is perfect for what we need.
