House Guests for the Holidays
Will you be hosting house guests this year? Plan ahead for all your home accommodation needs and add a trundle bed to your spare bedroom. Beds with built-in trundles are a clever choice to add more sleeping space to your guest bedroom without sacrificing precious floor space. Incorporating a daybed with trundle option is a great choice for a spare bedroom that doubles as a den or computer room, allowing you extra seating and a décor you can enjoy when using the room yourself. If you'd like to update an existing bed instead, trundles can be added to the guest bed you already own. Bed frames that lend themselves to pop-up or roll-away trundle additions are typically platform beds or day beds. Purchasing just a trundle frame and mattress can blend right in with your existing bed if you choose a trundle designed to look like a drawer or a metal frame that can hide under a bed skirt. Whatever style you choose, measure carefully before you buy to be absolutely sure your trundle will fit your bed.
Stylish Sleepovers with Built-in Trundles
Choose a trundle bed for a child's room or teen's room to create instant sleepover space. If your child enjoys having a friend spend the night, kids beds that include a trundle provide the convenience of an extra bed without the set up and storage requirements.
Teens often enjoy daybeds with trundles, both for the extra sleeping space and the mature atmosphere a daybed creates. Your teen can create the look and feel of a small studio apartment with a futon or sofa-style daybed, enhancing his or her sense of personal space and independence.

Bought this bed thinking it was essentially a platform bed but it isn't really. It has cross braces that screw into a very smal
l piece of wood that runs along each side rail but there are only about four of them and they would not support a mattress by themselves, especially a memory foam one like mine. Thus, it is necessary to use some sort of box spring/foundation, but the side rails are low so only a low profile foundation will look good, otherwise it will stick up above the rail. I went to Home Depot and build a platform of my own that drops in to the frame on the cross-supports and allows the mattress to sit down just under the top of the cross rails so it looks nice. However, there is definitely some noise when moving around and I don't know how long the small wood pieces holding the cross braces are going to last, it's hard to tell. It looks very nice otherwise and is pretty simple to take apart if you are willing to take the screws out of those wood pieces (though I think it would weaken it once reassembled). It has lasted two years so far so we'll see!

We use the bed with a Sleepnumber mattress. It worked out well except that it was far lower than a platform bed usually is sinc
e the slats are recessed quite a bit. We had to make a wooden platform to raise the level so that we don't feel like we're sleeping on the floor.
