South Shore began in 1940 by purchasing of a bankrupt toy manufacturing plant. Realizing toys were terribly cyclical in nature Eugene Laflamme quickly branched out into the dining furniture market by creating kitchen tables and chairs. Twelve years later, it was time to diversify, so South Shore ventured further into the case goods market with the design and manufacturing of wood bedroom furniture. Today, South Shore takes great pride in its eco-friendly products constructed of particle board and MDF sourced from FSC- and EPP-compliant manufacturers, creating more durable engineered wood products from recycled wood fibers. South Shore products are free from both lead and heavy metals, and packaged in recycled materials. Scrap wood from production is used to heat the factories.
