John Boos is a recognized leader in manufacturing quality kitchen products. Their products are made in the USA using solid North American hardwoods. The company was founded by Conrad Boos and started all the way back in 1887! Based in Effingham, Illinois, John boos has always placed emphasis on tradition and quality.
How the company started makes for an interesting story. After harvesting Sycamore from Effingham’s wooded areas, Conrad brought it back to his sawmill for processing and then brought it to the blacksmith for finishing. It was there that they realized their first innovation; they placed a sycamore tree on three legs to absorb the shock of the hammer against the anvil. The local butcher discovered this innovation and decided it was something he could use in his shop. Conrad’s son, John, made the butcher a butcher block and turned this into a business.
