(Note: I purchased the four-piece version of this unit which includes the back panel behind the TV - that unit has been discontinued but is identical to this unit except for the back panel)

This item ships in two heavy and large cartons per piece of furniture. Assembling the furniture wasn't difficult but does take perhaps an hour per piece.

In my case I received one carton that had been damaged in shipping that cracked a back panel and one carton that looked fine on the outside but several parts were damaged on the inside. (Everything is made in China and shipped in large quantities to an American Distributor which adds to the shipping damage with such heavy cartons and then shipped via FedEx Home who also don't treat heavy packages well at all)

Replacement of the damaged parts was simple enough through a few emails to the manufacturer, although the parts I received were almost as damaged as the original parts. (Never did get one door problem resolved so I just repaired the damaged finish on the one I had and moved on and I also had one piece that was manufactured incorrectly and required a half hour of my time to remove and replace some threaded inserts for special bolts)

The product is made of solid hardwood in every part except the adjustable shelves which are laminated, but they still look good. The finish is darker than what is pictured online, in the range of a dark Classic Cherry finish. (NOT American Cherry!)

The units when assembled look good and are very solid, and even with all of the hassles I had to go through getting replacement parts shipped (multiple shipments of parts) and doing repairs to the units during assembly the furniture is still a very good value for the price. If I had the option to do it again I would certainly buy the same unit, but would have opened the boxes sooner and inspected for damage more carefully. (I had a 4-6 week delay between order receipt and final assembly due to other work being done to the room where this furniture was to be installed)

Oh, and you will end up with about 4 large garbage bags of Styrofoam once you get the entire thing unpacked and assembled! (And yes, I did recycle ALL of the packing materials!)
