Platform Beds – Designed for Modern Living
Platform beds have become one of the most popular choices for bedroom furniture. They are designed with a low profile that sits close to the floor, making them an ideal choice for apartment living. Since they sit close to the floor, they give the appearance of a taller ceiling and therefore a bigger space. Cymax carries a wide range of platform beds in queen, king and twin sizes to make it simple to choose one to find for your space. Read More
Benefits of Platform Beds
A platform bed can also offer some cost savings. By not having to purchase a box spring, you can save money in comparison to a traditional style bed. Or instead of spending money on the boxspring, invest in a high quality memory foam or latex foam mattress for added comfort and support.
Platform beds can be more supportive than regular mattresses. Choose one that has firm supports as opposed to wood slats to ensure a great nights sleep.
Your kids need not be left out. Kids platform beds are available in popular finishes like white and espresso. Choose a platform captain's bed that has built-in storage drawers to make the most of your space.
Platform beds with storage are also a wise choice for students or those who live in studio apartments. Many are designed with built-in shelves or drawers. This style of platform bed serves a twin purpose. It combines sleeping space with the all-important storage.
Platform Bed Style
Platform beds are generally modern in appearance but there is still a full range of designs to choose from. Go traditional, country or modern. At Cymax the choice is yours.
Contemporary platform bed designs mostly do not include a headboard or footboard. High gloss lacquered finishes in gray or black are popular. For a more traditional look, go for the rich feeling of real wood. Finishes like walnut and mahogany are always popular as are styles like the traditional sleigh bed. For a chic look that is somewhere in the middle, a transitional platform bed in dark espresso fits the bill.
Other materials are commonly available. Try a metal platform bed for an industrial look that is perfect for your youth's bedroom. An upholstered platform bed has a luxurious feel and the headboard is comfortable for reading or watching TV.

We choose this bed frame because it fits in with our dark oak bedroom furniture and also because of its classy looks. We purcha
sed a king size adjustable bed and needed a bed frame that could accommodate our new bed. Did not take too long to set it up and is very attractive. I have had metal bed frames before so was a little concerned about any squeaking noises when repositioning in bed etc. It is very quiet and solid.

Bought this bed thinking it was essentially a platform bed but it isn't really. It has cross braces that screw into a very smal
l piece of wood that runs along each side rail but there are only about four of them and they would not support a mattress by themselves, especially a memory foam one like mine. Thus, it is necessary to use some sort of box spring/foundation, but the side rails are low so only a low profile foundation will look good, otherwise it will stick up above the rail. I went to Home Depot and build a platform of my own that drops in to the frame on the cross-supports and allows the mattress to sit down just under the top of the cross rails so it looks nice. However, there is definitely some noise when moving around and I don't know how long the small wood pieces holding the cross braces are going to last, it's hard to tell. It looks very nice otherwise and is pretty simple to take apart if you are willing to take the screws out of those wood pieces (though I think it would weaken it once reassembled). It has lasted two years so far so we'll see!
