Comments about Elite Products Mead Junior Twin Oak Futon Chair Frame:
I recently moved to a small efficiency apartment, and was searching for a space-saving solution to my sleeping requirements. I found a variety of potential furniture types while browsing the web, and finally my choices were down to a futon or a sleep sofa. I didn't want to spend thousands on a sleep sofa, though, and then when I discovered the "chair futon" I was intrigued. This looked like a great way to save space, and after much deliberation I decided to take a chance, and I ordered the Mead Elite chair futon from Cymax.
This has turned out to have been a good choice. I've slept on it every night now for over a month, and I find the mattress to be padded enough to be quite comfortable. Yes, the bed is a bit narrow, but I was previously sleeping in a twin-size bed, so this is not too much smaller. It is necessary to buy the ottoman and the ottoman cushion, though, since the chair's cushion is not long enough to support an adult body by itself.
I didn't order mattress covers, since I preferred to sew my own, but the mattresses came with nice plain cotton fabric covers that were easy to cover with my home-made versions.
The construction is sturdy and rugged, yet it is very simple in design and looks like a nice piece of furniture. I did have some difficulty assembling the unit when it arrived, and since I am an experienced furniture-assembler it might be overwhelming for someone who isn't familiar with nuts and bolts. The assembly instructions were confusing, and some of the bolts would not fit into their appointed holes until I hammered them into place. However, in the end I was quite satisfied, and would recommend this product for someone who wants to save space with a utilitarian and attractive piece of furniture.
