TV Armoires Buying Guide
Things to Consider Before Purchasing an Armoire
Armoires can be loosely divided into four major catecories: wardrobe armoires, television armoires, computer armoires and jewelry armoires. Before shopping for one, decide if you want a general purpose armoire or one that serves a specific function.
Because armoires come in a wide range of styles and sizes, make sure that you know the measurements of the area where the armoire will stand; you don’t want to end up with a piece of furniture that’s too big.
Take into account the space required to accommodate the open doors of the armoire. If you are buying one for a small room or a narrow hallway, consider purchasing an armoire with wrap-around or sliding panel doors.
Decide if you want to be able to move the unit around the room or even from room to room. This will limit your choice of armoire to smaller sized units that include casters or ones that can be easily lifted.
Take into consideration what the armoire is going to be used for. If you are buying a computer armoire or one to be used for clothes or as an entertainment center, make sure that the shelves are adjustable.
Choose a TV armoire that has wrap-around doors to allow you an unobstructed view of the television from virtually anywhere in the room.
For rooms that possess a romantic or traditional décor, select a computer armoire or a TV armoire to house electronic equipment that might compromise the room’s atmosphere.
If you are adding a wardrobe armoire to a small room, select one with mirrored doors; this will make the room appear larger.
They might appear compact and not need much floor space, but when purchasing a jewelry armoire, make sure you have sufficient clearance for side opening doors, top opening lids and open drawers.
