Buying Guide for Safes: An Overview
Safes are strongboxes designed to protect a variety of valuables, from irreplaceable documents to currency and jewelry in both commercial and residential settings. Not only are they designed to guard against theft, safes are also intended to protect valuables from disasters like fires and floods. Also, some insurance companies offer homeowners special rates and/or extended coverage if the safe is properly rated for the insured contents. Check with your insurance agent. Whether it’s for your home or business, buying a safe is a wise investment. All safes are not created equal. The more you know about what’s available, the more you will be able to make the choice that’s best for you. Before you spend a lot of money for a certain kind of safe or for additional features you might not need, here are some things to consider before making a final decision.
Where will the safe be located?Ensure that the safe you would like to purchase will fit the intended space and matches its intended environment. For example, when purchasing a fireproof records vault, you will need to ensure that the floor is able to bear its weight.
How you want the safe to be installed? In addition to where the safe will be located, also consider whether, for example, you require your safe to be installed in-floor or wall-mounted. For example, consider if you will be able to install a wall safe in your home in the prescribed manner for optimal functionality. Alternatively, you don't want to purchase an in-floor safe only to find that you can’t install it because of your new hardwood floors
What will be kept in the safe? There is a type of safe for virtually every storage need. It's important to think about how you'll be using your safe. For example, protecting data requires special considerations. To fully protect disks and other media, you will need a media safe that is specifically constructed to provide a moisture-free environment in addition to protecting the contents from heat.
Do you require any special features or qualities?Any specific features or qualities you require, such being fire, water or impact resistant. Most fireproof safes are water resistant in some way. If you need a safe that is specifically waterproof, check to see if the contents of the safe will be protected when submerged in water for a period of time like in flood conditions. Note that the higher level of protection or combination of types of protection, the more expensive the safe.
