I purchased this lateral file, along with the matching Fairview L-shaped desk and hutch. I work from home full time in a room that doubles as an office and guest room, so I wanted the furniture to look professional, but also easy to match with bedroom furniture. I like the fact that the base is black, but the top is cherry, and the handles are kind of silver/pewter in appearance. It gives me more options to match it to a queen bed and night stands. Right now I have a futon with a silver colored metal frame and black mattress cover, and it looks surprisingly okay with the black/cherry furniture (although I plan to replace it with a real queen bed with a black wood headboard and footboard with vertical slats to complete the "look"). [...] The file cabinet specifically says not to use it as a TV stand, but I have a 32 inch flat panel LCD TV on top of it, and it's great. The top is rated to hold 200 pounds, according to the instructions. I wouldn't put an old tube TV on top, but a lightweight flat panel TV works well. It would work well as a printer/scanner stand, as well (not in addition to the TV). One word of caution when you are building this cabinet: pay attention to direction of the drawer runners in the pictures in the instruction booklet. It does matter! I had to take one panel off and switch it with another one partway through because I had it on backwards. My husband helped me a little bit with assembly, but I was mostly able to build the whole thing on my own. The only thing that would have been easier as a two-person job was the attachment of the drawer faces to the drawers. All told, it took me about 2 hours to put the whole thing together, and I was watching TV and taking breaks.

The only problem with this is it will tip over if it is only half full it must be attached to something to remain level such as put against a corner wall and the desk, but great storage lots of room

It took a very long time to assemble but once together, looks and fits great in our office. Very easy to use and very organized.

Like I said with the desk, you need a drill in addition to the screwdriver to assemble this furniture. I like the design & all the storage. It definitely beats a tall four drawer file cabinet. Also, it is nice that they number the pieces, but they need to put them on the back sides. I went to remove one & it took some paint with it & unfortunately, it is noticeable.
