I will attempt to keep this short, but at the same time, try to sell what I think is an unbelievable unit.
I usually read revie
ws and do my homework before making any purchases both on line and at local retailers, however this item did not have any reviews at the time of purchase.
This audio rack is cremdelacrem! It was delivered on a wooden skid and double boxed for added protection. I consider myself a fairly strong individual and it took a lot for me to get this from the garage to my rec room. I know that I was getting my moneys worth just from the mere fact that it was extremely heavy.
It took the better part of an hour to assemble it myself. Nothing overly involved or head-scratching. The beautiful cherry wood sides, the black tubular corners and the smoked glass door adds a classy look to the rest of the furniture. The heavy duty tempered glass shelves are strong enough to support most any audio gear available. It also has a fixed wooden shelf that sits on isolation pegs, so that audiophiles like myself who still have turntables will greatly benefit from this concept.
The reviews that I had read prior to this purchase had all stated that the pressboard wood sides were chintzy and that the backs were merely cardboard that had to be tacked on to the units. I can assure you on the backing of this unit, it is anything but cheap. It is 1/4" wood that sits atop of fixed brackets and is locked into place with a twist tab. Very easy to access when needed and provides great coverage for all your wires.
I am so happy with this purchase and 'highly' recommend this piece to anybody who not only appreciates good quality, but wants to protect their audio investments and at the same time, ad class to their decor.
In the Cons section, I checked heavy as a con. In all truthfulness, this is not really a con because as the old adage goes, if its heavy, then it must be expensive!!
No regrets whatsoever!!

Here's the good, the bad, and the bottom line.
Good: Solid wood (except back panel), not the press board you get from many "ba
rgain" retailers. Easy to assemble, even if you are doing it alone as I did. The precut hole is useful, but if you are needing to run multiple cables (HDMI, digital receiver, etc) as I did, you can enlarge or cut additional holes in the back panel with minimal work.
Bad: This thing is heavy (about 75lbs)and difficult to move by yourself.
Bottomline: This is a quality, good looking piece of furniture that should last for years. It is just wide/deep enough to hold my HD/DVR box and home theater components, as well as pictures and DVD's. And most importantly, it allows me to keep my A/V components out of the reach of my 20 month old.
In the end, if you need something that looks good, is going to last, and will hold your A/V components and fit into a small space, this is the cabinet your looking for.
