I now have three of these shelves in my apartment. I bought one many years ago and I was sad to see that they have changed the design slightly when I decided to buy more. The shelves are much thinner than the original design, so they are not as sturdy as the original one I purchased.

That being said, I've decided to re-purpose these shelves to start handling my collection of paperback books. CD/DVD shelves are simply the perfect width for these things and you can fit hundreds of average sized paperbacks on a shelf! Rather than using a typical wide bookshelf to store these types of books, these shelves are perfect for this purpose.

I am even planning on buying a shelf to put hardcover books on, though I am slightly nervous about the shelves holding the weight. I suspect an average sized fiction hardcover should hold up just fine, but these shelves are simply unsuitable for my text books. In that regard I use a typical larger sized bookshelf. A regular fiction hardcover sticks out only a few inches beyond the shelf, but I find the width is still perfect to manage these books as well. We'll see how my future shelf buying goes over the year... I project I need 5 more of these! One will be for my DVD's/Xbox games though.

I needed DVD shelving that held ALOT of DVD's. I have over 1000 DVD's and had trouble finding something that held that many. I was pleased to have found this. If anyone needs something to hold all their DVD's then I suggest buying this product. Each one held 504 DVD's, but you have to remove sleeves on your DVD's if any of them have them to get that true count.

This item was easy to put together. I was able to assemble it within about an hour, and thats while my two young daughters were sitting with me, stacking my dvd collection to get ready to put on the shelf. this was a great purchase. And it looks great in my living room. Only wish they had it in black, but you cant really tell anyway.

Product didn't take very long to assemble (couple hours) and looks great. Used two along a wall of a small bedroom--bedroom looks much bigger than it is thanks to shallow depth of the shelves. Color is nice, more neutral/maple colored than the online photos. Best value I could find for DVD shelves after months of searching for something to complement my existing shelves, [...] discontinued Flarke DVD shelves.

I used it to hold about 500 CDs, 40 or so DVDS and a dozen Vinyl Records. It is holding them all with plenty of room to spare. Very versatile with the size and shape of the shelves. It feels tough, which I like, and it comes with a handy wall mount so you know it's not moving. I built it with one other person in about 30-45 min. with no power tools. Simple design. Very pleased overall.

Holds a lot of Cd's/DVD's. We didn't know we owned so many.
The backing is flimsy. Instead, we used a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" birch plywood. We cut it about 1/8" bigger (on all sides) then the size of the provided backing and coated the viewing side with a thin coat of linseed oil. We use the backing sent with the shelving as a template for the nail holes. We also drilled some of the nail holes and use wood screws instead. (Drilling is a must or the particle board will break). This made for a much sturdier unit.

We found this at a retail store near us for a large price. I did some looking online and found this same piece here at Cymax which was cheaper [...]and no tax. I couldn't pass it up!It came and we put it together. At first it was a bit hard to put together as the middle is abit flimsy. I was happy it came with braces to attach to the wall to give it more sturdiness.
