August Lotz Comfort Spring 8" Futon Mattress
- Shopper in
New York City
I would like to compare this to gold bonds comfort coil which is the closest thing to it in quality and workmanship for the futo
n 8 inch spring mattress.
This August Lotz mattress has an outer shell composed of cotton and polyester. Polyester is better than cotton. Keeps it's shape longer, lasts longer and softens the feel a bit. Though the manufacturer won't tell me how much polyester is in the outer shell, (saying it's a company secret) leading me to believe it's not a lot. I'm guessing 10%. Goldbonds outer shell is pure cotton, but is compressed at 500lbs, meaning it will hold it's shape. August's is compressed but they won't tell you how much, leading me to believe it's not as much as goldbonds. August Lotz has a total of two inches of foam, one on top of the springs and one on the bottom. GB has 1.5 inches total. Lotz has an optimizing mesh on top of the springs to keep the springs from coming through. GB does not. Both are medium firm. Goldbond has the better springs - independent coil that does not transfer motion. And special breakaway springs that help it fold into a coach. August does not but has a good spring system, a 255 bonnell spring system. Bonnell components are made in china. Goldbonds springs are made in the u.s. Goldbonds springs are preheated to 600 degrees to give them more longevity. Augus's is unknown, company won't say. Goldbond is heavier at 70lbs, consider that when trying to move it. August is lighter at 60lbs. Goldbond has an a+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. August has a b+. Both companies have been here a long time. Goldbond is better known on the East Coast and is in Ct. Lotz is in Wisconsin. Goldbonds customer service is non-existent and their desire to talk to you low. August has one person who is running the customer service and her desire to help you high. Goldbond sometimes misleads people with erroneous info, like in some ads showing the comfort coil has 4 layers of foam when it's only two. August lotz does not. Elite's coil lux or premier coil 8000 series doesn't come close to any of these by by light years. Cottonwood futons has an F rating with the BBB and I suggest you avoid them. Though they have nice attractive ads, it's hard to tell how much is actually true.
