These have a visible flame, and more closely resemble traditional fireplaces, whereas the flames on electric fireplaces are two dimensional and appear as though they exist behind a glass pane. Care should always be taken when placing objects near any fireplace, although these fireplaces will not damage your walls, consider not placing any fabrics, or electronics directly above them.
